Eight centuries of Faith in Almortão
2026 is a special year, as we are celebrating the 820th anniversary of Idanha-a-Nova, that is, eight centuries since 1206, when King Sancho I, in a letter confirming the donation of Idanha-a-Velha to the Order of the Temple, first used the name Egitânia Nova (which would later become Idanha-a-Nova). This historical celebration of the Municipality culminates in our most symbolic festival, the Festa da Senhora do Almortão, one of the oldest pilgrimages in the region where the sound of the typical adufes echoes through the countryside, celebrating a devotion that spans generations and defines the soul of our people.
